Description

Although videoing classroom lessons or producing educational video and flash content for normal learners is not new, few products have been applied to assist teachers and presenters prepare educational video/flash content to deaf learners, or those with learning or perceptual disabilities. Deaf learners as well as other learners can tend to be visual. RealShow project provides a free desktop tool and video sharing website to facilitate the process of producing and sharing quality video content for deaf learners. The tool provides functions that integrate and record PowerPoint slides, freehand drawings, screen text typing, web pages, and direct teacher’s video view in one single frame. It allows teachers creating video or flash content using several translation techniques, including facial expressions, natural gestures, and sign language, which help convey messages. It encourages teachers of deaf learners in Arabic-speaking and developing nations produce and share their videos via RealShow website and electronic and mobile media, which can be used to bridge many gaps.

Reason for nomination

RealShow helps teachers to make their video presentations more accessible for the hearing impaired/deaf students. It allows teachers to create video lessons using several visual techniques, including facial expressions, gestures, and sign language which help convey messages. It provides the deaf student with a clear and direct view of the teacher's mouth, face and signs. RealShow helps educators and presenters apply principles for the design of multimedia materials and human cognitive processing in delivering their PowerPoint slides. It takes advantage of the dual-channel structure of the human information processing system by means of text, pictures and audio. It promotes active cognitive processing by allowing the presenter to guide the processes of selecting, organizing, and integrating information. RealShow gives visual aids and fosters human contact between the presenter and the audience. The presenter can clearly identify the main points and communicate in a way that will have the desired impact on the audience through texts, illustrations, slides, and visual presence of the presenter.

Description

Founded in 2004, Nawaat is in an independent platform run by Tunisians. It gives voice to all those who want to spread their civic commitment. Nawaat receives no public subsidy and is funded by its administrators. Because concepts such as civil society, decentralisation, peaceful conflict management and accountability cannot be implemented without citizen involvements, Nawaat focuses on the many ways that can encourage citizens to participate. The common thread among Nowata’s contents is how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources in order to guarantee the realization of human rights in a democratic regime that allows accountability. Furthermore, the most noticeable aspect shared by all these themes under Ben Ali's regime was expressed through the fight against censorship, corruption and human rights violations. At the same time and during all this years, Nawaat also focused on how to help Tunisians (and others) to circumvent censorship by giving technical advises and tools.

Starting in 2004 as a blog, Nawaat portal is the voice of Tunisians which is denunciating human right violation, information and arts censure, hassling, persecution, corruption and crimes and is awaking people thought Internet and social networks. Nawaat is the mean which destabilized Tunisian dictatorship during 7 years by delivering real news, sharing quality contents and defeating all kind of internet censure. Users can feed reports, news, videos, comment, share and diffuse contents on line or via social networks (Facebook, twitter, Youtube and posterous). Nawaat is the 1st site translating and publishing Tunileaks (wikileaks well done compiled reports on Tunisia). Nawaat is a rich well done platform of inclusion and participation which delivered Tunisia from dictatorship and establishes democracy and dignity.

Description

According to 2007 WHO statistics, approximately 11% of Egyptian population, around 9.4 million, suffer from some kind of disability/impairment. People with disabilities may be different but they have the same needs as everyone else. Given a helping hand, they can live independently and contribute to society. Accordingly, the specialized portal Erada addresses PWD significant need related to the knowledge and information empowerment for people with disabilities (PWD) in order to ensure their full participation and inclusion at all levels of society. This portal focuses on catering knowledge, needs, and concerns to PWD in all categories (hearing impairment, visual impairment, Physical impairment, mental retardation, autism, Learning Difficulties). It covers important topics such as terms of disabilities, laws & rights, early intervention, genetic disease and more.
